Aspras Terra Family – Ierapetra

We are a family that loves the place where the ancestors lived and tries to revive techniques in the care of nature that respect the environment and the presence of the people who visit it. We believe in the self-sufficiency that nature can provide to a large extent, we respect sustainability and support with our actions a way of life that is good for the soul and the body. Our goal is to be able to make our friends and visitors feel the same.

Place History

It all started in 1936 as the main house was then built on the rock. After the war Aspras, influenced by France where he studied and where the vineyards and famous wines flourished, bought the perimeter of the house and parallel to the river, a large area of about 50 acres where until about 1970 he cultivated grape varieties which he traded as grapes and raisins.

Also on the estate there were many fig trees from which he took the figs and dried them for the purpose of their trade. At the same time, he expanded the estate by making it a joint venture, building warehouses for the products and hostels for the workers, three wells, 2 cisterns, pigsties, hens, rabbits, etc.

Nowadays

From 1970 onwards, when grapes ceased to be marketable, olives took their place at first and then greenhouses. Since then there are 2 acres (one and one) metal greenhouses. There are citrus trees, almond trees, fig trees and about 300 olive trees and a variety of Cretan aromatic plants (rosemary, oregano, thyme, sage, basil, mint) all in an area of about 30 acres that remain in the family property.
